Abstract:
Road Traffic Safety Agency in the Republic of Serbia manages Integrated road safety database on road safety characteristics at national level, and data from that database is available to public trough separated internet application (WEB GIS Application). By making such centralized database, Agency is helping to all, especially to smallest local communities which do not have enough capacities for quality management based on data. Existence of all technical aspects of such complex system (in terms of hardware, but also software) at the level of Road Traffic Safety Agency, enables representatives of local communities to use simple applicative solution without need to know how the whole system functions. Having in mind that local communities in the Republic of Serbia have some dedicated funds for the improvement of road safety, it is necessary to make decisions related to funds distribution based on data – proven facts. Main prerequisite for decision making based on data is that data is available. First version of application has been developed and published in June, 2015. Significant improvements of database have been also done until end of 2016. Advantages and disadvantages of development of national road safety database and also separated application for data export and analysis have been described in paper, but is has been also pointed how important is to make decisions based on data and what datasets are available in database currently.
